I’m a student here in Lakeview Middle School Battle Creek, MI. I’ve attended the award ceremony just a few hours ago 5/28/13 6 pm. Of course I received an award that I deserve, but nothing what I was expecting especially when I worked hard for it. I’m one of the students with the highest GPA and yet I didn’t receive recognition for High Academic Achievement or awarded for the subject areas I was good at. I’ve noticed few students and classmates who did receive awards but have lesser GPA than me. I also noticed the students that were on stage today are students that are either popular or the one who are sucking up to the teachers. There are a few I know who do deserve awards but they too suck up to the teachers. I’m not jealous or anything. It’s a matter of fairness from this school. What’s so bad about it, I noticed the teachers and administrators encourage this kind of thing—FAVORITISM. Oh when it comes to politics, I’ve noticed most of the teachers here are for the Blue team (subtly influencing most of the naive students). Parents are either scared or too busy to notice how this school is being run and this school is the worst school I’ve been to. Close Quote

I'd give this school less then one star if I could. There's lots of student teaching students or 'group work' that goes on and it's ridiculous! Most teachers won't even verify report cards before they are sent home and have almost no concept of relating to children.

Teachers don't take their responsibilities seriously here and are generally lazy as the school ranking suggests. Administrators display the attitude of "kids will be kids" or "boys will be boys" when dealing with issues that arise. Whatever justifies their lack of interest is what works for them.

Most won't even go outside for basic bus duty if the weather isn't perfect to ensure student safety and when that clock hits 3pm....that's it...out the door they go and by 4pm everyone is out of the building.

They, in a glorious display of stupidity, added the 5th grade to a middle school and leave the smaller children to fend for themselves.

5th graders are still elementary students but that concept is left by the way side as bullies abound and everything is labeled 'tattling'. This of course leads to a lot of fighting and makes the transition extremely hard for many, something the school officials have no compassion for conveniently forgetting these are small children not unruly teens.

Having done this is an extreme injustice to the children not to mention stressful. I have heard of many kids going from liking school to hating it after just a few weeks at Lakeview Middle School.

(Also to note that my kids' Dr. has said getting up at 6:30am for school is too early for children their age and not beneficial.

There is a huge difference between a child of 10-11 and one of 13-14. This system is just a moronic display of disregard for students. Also because of this combination these 5th graders are on the same buses as the high school students. Something that many view as inappropriate and unsafe! I won't go into the buses since this is suppose to be about the school but to say....drive your children if at all possible!!!!

This school has a huge problem with catering to the 'school of choice' students because it means money therefore, those students tend to get away with severe misconduct. Something that those students/ parents know and take full advantage of.

Do not expect your child to learn much here, be progressive or 'ahead of the game'. This school just isn't equipped for anything even mediocre.

All in all, if you can, look elsewhere. After having the experiences at this school, it's no wonder MI has some of the fastest growing home schooling rates in the US. Close Quote
